SSE graphics in an Octane is pretty low end by today's standards. (Still
a
step up from the SSI I use, mind you.) From what I have heard you should
really avoid a Blade 100 if at all possible. They are re****ted to be much
under powered. XVR-500 in a Blade 1000 would be a much better choice.
You might also want to see if your CAD software is sup****ted for Solaris
'x86. Proper UNIX on improper hardware.
You really should be asking this sort of question over in comp.sys.sun.*
where people know of all the various flavours of Sun hardware, rather than
the limited subset encountered over here in SGI land.
I have sympathy for your plight, though. Irix sup****t for MATLAB was
dropped in the order of two years back. I'm slowly migrating to Solaris,
and am finding it pretty good in most respects, but it just doesn't quite
have the ease of use offered by Irix.
