I'd guess they're probably running an older version of IRIX. Newer
versions can
be downloaded from SGI's website if you have a sup****t contract ($$$) or
if you
have a developer account (free) and email the sup****t staff and request
entitlement to download IRIX updates.
My guess is that the client's IRIX dates to at least before 6.5.18 (as my
Octane
with 6.5.18 has OpenGL 1.3), so as with all pre-6.5.21 versions you'll
need to
install patch 5086 (which is included with the update package) manually
before
installing the rest of the release.
Other than that, it's just a simple matter of using the software manager
to open
up the new release, then open the original IRIX CDs to satisfy any
dependancies,
and let it update.
