Hi everyone,
Now that the quake2 and quake3 engines are GPL, It would be nice
if someone at Sgi would release the Sgi-specific patches that made up
sgiquake2 3.20 and quake3 1.17BETA so we (the opensource community) could
take over maintenance of these (still very) popular games.
When the source to the q2 engine was released, I got in touch with
the SUN team who had released the SUN enhanced binaries and they sent me
their sources. The result is that we now have a current and maintained
Solaris Quake2 system (see http://www.icculus.org/quake2)
in par with
su****t for Linux/x86, Linux/PPC and others..
I would like to do the same for the IRIX version for both q2 and
q3 but it would really help if Sgi would release the diffs they made to
Quake2 and Quake3 to make them work nicely under IRIX. Richard Hess, who
had produced the Q2 ****t and other stuff, mentionned that the sgi-modified
sources to q2 and q3 might still be somewhere on the sgi campus.
Would it be possible to discuss getting these sources released to
the OSS community?
Thanks for reading.. :)
