I remember seeing such behavior back when I still used Netscape, and 
it's present in Firefox.  So far as I know, it's automatic behavior that 
occurs when the image in question is too large for the browser window.  
In Firefox, I also note that the "magnified" image is accompanied by a 
slightly different pointer that lets me go back to the original size.
