Although this won't directly get GraphicConverter or Preview Im****t to
work (you'll have to take that up with Canon--good luck with that), you
can still use VueScan with this scanner. It's sup****ted:

Lots of the older orphaned scanners are sup****ted by Vuescan. In my own
experience, the 8600F I bought has had it's drivers continually updated
by Canon. So unless you have some burning need to write your own
scanner drivers, maybe it's time you moved on to something that "just
works".
But then, you may just want to tinker. In which case, have at it.
