hi,
I was thinking of buying a new Mac Pro too but discarded the
idea precisely for this very same reason i.e. their handful very
limited sup****ted set of video cards. Opted to stay with my
Dell Precision 670 and upgrade it.
When I investigated it turned out that is not a hardware incompatibility
e.g. the 8800 would fit the PCIe and even work from e.g. Windows XP
booted from Boot Camp, the problem is that Mac OS would not
recognize such card and not boot... it is a Mac OS drivers issue
AFAIK. I even remember reading that someone was kept switching
two video cards all the time. It is really a shame on such a big
player and successful monster like Apple.
Regards,
Giovanni
