Questions re using older CanonScan N1220U USB scanner with various apps
on Mac OS X:
I've installed the CanonScan ScanExpert_v380X software on my Mac OS
10.3.9 system and used it to install the associated CanonPI CS-U 3.8X
plugin in the right folders (I think) for Acrobat 7.0, PhotoShop
Elements 3, Illustrator CS 11, and GraphicConverter.
As a result I can acquire scans using PhotoShop and GC, but I don't seem
to be able to get Acrobat or Illustrator to see the scanner. Maybe I
should satisfied with that, but I'd like to get the others to work also.
So, questions:
1) Is Acrobat supposed to be able to acquire scans directly -- or just
process them after they're been acquired and saved from Elements or GC?
2) I take it the v380X software is just an installer for the plugins,
and I don't need to keep it around (except as a backup) or open it each
time I want to use the scanner . . . correct?
3) I still have the older CanonScan Toolbox 4.1 hanging around in my
Applications folder from OS 9 days. Can I ditch that? -- or is it still
involved somehow in the operation of the scanner?
4) Is the "Startup" button on the scanner itself still able to active
the scanning software? Or is that also an OS 9 relic only?
5) The 380X plugins seem to work OK -- but is there any better softward
recommended for this unit?
Thanks . . .
