Thanks a lot Skybuck,

  all that is very fa****nating. There is a little problem: I have to
do a line chart.

  If I had to do the candlestick chart I wouldn't have the problem I
am asking advice about.

 The problem here is not about the type of representation: I have
usually no problem creating whatever graphics,
 the question I am making is about the resampling scheme. I am sorry
probably I am not clear.

 Actually, I begin to think that I could perhaps resample picewise, to
avoid smoothing differently the different part of the chart
 and then when all the list is scanned up to the limit start over the
resampling process...

 I need to do the line chart. Thanks for your patience.
