DirectX - culling, etc.

I have a Chess knight that I made in Blender.  I ex****ted it to DirectX
format and the base of the knight appears just fine, but the top half
of the knight only shows the far face and the near face is invisible.
I believe that this is due to culling.  Any ideas why it would cull
right for the base and not right for the upper half?
