Yes, umm, no...
I took part in an computer graphics lecture some years ago that was very
theoretic (writing lots of math on lots of whiteboards... :) ) but also
was
very good (It was accompanied by regular task assignments consisting
mainly
of actually programming the teached algorithms using OpenGL, which nobody
of us has known at that point of time. Most of us concentrated on the
theory assignments instead to catch some credit points...).
The main is: As a comp.sci student you should be able to teach yourself
OpenGL without any problems (Hey, at least it is nothing more than another
library to cope with). But teaching yourself the theory of computer
graphics, especially the underlying math, might get very complicated if
not
impossible.
BTW: While things like OpenGL might make sense in such a course,
applications like 3DSMax or Maya in my opinion have no place there, since
they focus on graphics design (which should be, like image processing or
visualization, teached in depth in other courses), not algorithms.
