I was looking at some vids on poly modelling in modo not so long ago,
thinking of making the switch, it's a great little program, seems very
intuitive.
Regards to OP, I use poly over mesh every time, the poly tools are MUCH
more advanced. Patch I will use for more organic modelling, the benefits
of patch over say a subdivided poly is (among a few other things) in
animation. take 2 spheres, make 1 a poly and 1 a patch, they look the
same yes?, now zoom in, what happens? now add a meshsmooth modifier to
the poly and give it 3 iterations and zoom in some more, there will come
a point when even the 3 iterations will start breaking up and you will
see individual polys again, whereas the patch is still perfectly round.
Apply that principle to ALL organic modelling and you will soon see why
NURBS and Patches are best for this kind of modelling.
