can't help you with 2. but as for 1. jump on google, there is sooooo
much out there for 3d artists, loads of free resources and video
tutorials etc.. 1 site you could check out is 3d-palace.com, there is a
fairly basic interior tutorial which shows you how to model a room, some
furniture, texture it and render it in vray, if you don't have vray you
can use mental ray that comes with max.
1 thing I would say though is keep your external and internal in
separate drawings, its a much better work flow, if you need to show
internal rooms in your exterior render e.g. through your windows, you
can always xref your internal into your external, remember to always
model using real world measurements!!!.
