Using Photoshop Elements, I select along any critical edges, and then
clone 
in samples from other parts of the wall.  If it's a plain wall, it's easy.

Be careful to choose from a part of the wall that has the same lighting. 
If 
it's a brick wall, or wallpaper, you also have to line up the pattern.
