If you want to know how many different colours there are, the IrfanView
program will tell you. If there are less than 256 colours in the image, in
PS using Save For Web as a GIF with an exact palette will show you all the
colours (I think).
If the image comes from a jpeg file then the actual colours will be
different from the original because jpeg compression does not preserve
colours accurately.
