Adobe's silly Activation process!

by Helpful Harry <helpful_harry@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 18, 2007 at 06:28 PM

Geez, I thought the silly Activation on InDesign was bad enough when
installing software, but trying to deactivate / transfer it is even
worse. :o(

For some reason at one place I do work for the Internet activation
process simply doesn't work (it's impossible to get Adobe.com from
there too and not much better from my own connection here), so I have
to phone up and use the automated version - which requires manually
entering the long serial number and long install code, and then being
told the long activation code.

They have just got a new computer so one license of InDesign has to be
moved across. As usual the Internet process times out and so you have
to phone up, except this time there is no automated process and you
have to wait for a Customer Service representative ... except that the
silly phone system tells you that "the call will be recorded" and
"please wait" three times and then hangs up on you. :o\

In the end I had to simply give up and use the automated system to
activate the same license on the new computer, which means there are
currently two computers running the same license ... which makes a
complete mockery of the stupid activation system. The original computer
is having it's hard drive wiped tomorrow and the OS re-installed fresh
before being given to someone else, so they're not actually using an
illegal version, but there's no way I can deactivate it ... which is
apparently unnnecessary since the system doesn't check the serial
number anyway.
