Yes and no.

 A. PageMaker 7 will run under Mac OS 9 without any real problems.
I'm not sure if there are any hiccups when using version 6.5
     though.

 B. PageMaker 7 will run under the Classic environment of Mac OS X
on G4 and G4 Macs ... sort of. It does suffer from a few hiccups
     which are annoying.

 C. PageMaker will NOT run on the newer Intel-based Macs at all since
they can not use Classic. (Technically you may be able to do so
via freeware / shareware emulation, but it's not really worth the
hassle of setting it up.) For Intel-Macs you have to change to
using InDesign, which can open PageMaker 7 files (I'm not sure
about PageMaker 6.5), but they will need some tweaking since
InDesign and Mac OS X use a different font system that causes
text to ****ft - mostly fixed by lowering the line spacing /
leading. Some fonts may not be included by the default Mac OS X,
so you may have to use another font or buy new versions of the
     missing fonts.

You might be better off perhaps keeping the PowerMac 8500 for running
PageMaker, and getting a new Intel Mac with InDesign. That way you can
still use the old files while learning the new system.
