PageMaker 5 is obsolete. Your client should upgrade to PageMaker 7 or go
directly to InDesign. InDesign can open your PageMaker file (although it
cannot resave it as a PageMaker file). There may be some aspects that
have to be reworked after the conversion, but it shouldn't be a big
deal. The current mess is not your responsibility; it's your client's.
You did what she asked; the fact that she is running unsup****ted
software is not your problem.
