Well, there's the Parent plugin, but really, lets face it, you say you
want to do it right, but the method you just laid out, IS, doing it right.
I mean, faking things in LW or ANY program is a good deal to do, as long
as it "lools" good to the eye, then it really doesn't matter and so
there really isn't a right or wrong way.
I fake things all the time and it's the "right way" to do it, cuz it
ends up looking right in the final animation and no one viewing can tell
the difference.
Which version of LW are you working with?
Do you know how to use the Sliders?
Do you see that you actually have the Parent plugin installed?
(and there are lots of perating style plugins out and about too)
I do not frequent this forum all that often anymore, so if you still
