Compile CVS with GIF_ANIMATION

Since I am getting with:

the following message when trying to create a gif animation:

"gnu_script.tex", line 116: warning: gif animation options ignored
(not compiled into this binary)

I am wondering about how exactly gnuplot has to be compiled in order
to enable Gif animation? I tried with the word GIF_ANIMATION, but
apperantly this did not work.
