Concerning windows this optimization stays in place for polylines with
segments of identical color. It works fine in 2d, but I am not certain
about the 3d case. There we always have alternate calls to move() and
vector() and I suspect that the optimization will fail - but I haven't 
checked yet. Do you also notice differences in plotting speed for 'plot'
vs 'splot' on windows?
