I'm afraid I don't understand how this solves my 'hidden line' problem...
I've put a small test-script online at

the resulting eps is at
http://www.cs.kuleuven.be/~bartv/stuff/gnuplot/rectangle_test.eps
As you can see, the lines are still hidden... I am probably
misinterpreting your answer... what exactly did you have in mind
and what am I misinterpreting?

No need to work around this, I can live with the default
linetypes available :-)
Gnuplot version I'm using is 4.2 patchlevel 2.
