1) The first half of that sentence is by no means sufficient reason to 
make the second half true.  I.e. that "As" clause is misleading at best.

2) Absolutely no.  Making the set of built-in functions in gnuplot's 
math engine depend on the compiler it happened to be built with is just 
about the least sane thing we could possibly do.
