Right.

One of the next steps (in trunk, after the gimp-2-6 branch has been
created) will be to create the layers projection - that's what you
actually see in an image window of GIMP - will be created by using
GEGL. This means that the image structure will have to be modelled as
a GEGL graph. While not yet changing the way GIMP works, it will act
as a proof of concept and will tell us about (expected) performance
