I do not understand your comments.  I am running a dual boot system now
and almost never boot windows.  I use Ubuntu 98% of the time.

Currently I use Ubuntu 7.04 and the newer versions of Gimp are not
sup****ted and I do not wish to spend the time to upgrade to a new OS. 
People who have tried to compile a later Gimp version have had trouble
with dependencies.  I choose not to fool around with it.

If I knew of a deb file that would work without any aggravation I would
try that.
