The blog post you've linked to does contain another link (which I was
refering to) to a 2.6.0 release announcement. Written by someone who
apparently thought that this version would bring higher bit depths due
to the dependency on GEGL.
If I assume that the subject of your post does contain what you are
trying to telling us, then I have to conclude that you are wrong - the
author of the post you linked to has provided a reason for not using
GIMP. If this is not what you were trying to tell, when you should
rephrase you message.
