I do not think that the general population is willing to use Linux (even 
though it is better) until a couple of things happen.  There needs to be 
a standard package manager and installation procedure across distros.  
There also needs to be a standard set of folders where all of the 
programs and configurations files are installed.  Many times you have 
folders of like name under other folders with similar names and then 
finally under some unique parent folder but in another distro the files 
on in different places causing for a real pain.

Then all of the hardware mfg has to be willing to sup****t Linux.  And I 
am sure MS will use its influence to see that will not happen.
