Windows leaves the printer interface to each application.
That is philosophically an abomination, which is a hold over
from the MS-DOS program loader way of doing things where each
individual application had total control of the hardware.

The printer interface should be a systems application
(LPR, CUPS, etc).  And that being the case there is no
reason at all to have a printer interface built into an
*editing* program.

(I have never once even tried to print directly from GIMP!)
