As a longtime photoshop user, I'm having difficulties adjusting to the
gimp.
I see that gimp offers a lot of the possibilities that photoshop
offers, but sometimes
I can't figure out how to do certain things in the gimp.
For instance, is it possible in gimp to move layers and their
associated layer masks independently in gimp? In photoshop, you have a
link icon between the layer and the layer mask and if it is visible,
you move both the layer and the layer mask simultaneously. If the icon
is not visible, you can move the layer and the layermask around
independently.
Is this possible in gimp somehow as well?
Another thing I'm missing in gimp is the layer style with all the
layer effects and the blend-if sliders.
Is there something like that in gimp?
I'm not too concerned about the layer effects, but the blend-if
sliders (that can also be split to create gradual transitions) seem
kind of essential.
Apart from that, there is the difference between fill opacity and
regular opacity in photoshop, but I suppose there is no equivalent
distinction in gimp?
Also, is there any chance of sup****t for LAB or CMYK color mode or a
16 bit mode in future versions of gimp, or perhaps with a plugin or
something?
Does anyone know of any webpages that offer an overview of some of the
most striking differences between photoshop and gimp and perhaps even
a kind of translation between functions/keys in both programs?
Kind regards and thanks in advance for any suggestions, Niek
