There is a windows ****t of the 'gutenprint' plugin - it was mentioned in a
post about a month ago.  
I normally use Gimp in linux but tried this in a Win XP machine and
although beta it works very well. My Canon pixma 4500 would spit out a
blank sheet with the regular print module - now I have control over image
size and position of the image on tthe paper. 
Well worth a try if you use Gimp 2.4.x and have one of the 'troublesome'
