You'll need to clarify your question. What is it exactly you are trying
to
do ? Do you want an image like the one shown in figure 6.9 with text in
the transparent region ? Is the text solid or is it semi-transparent ?
Or
do you want semi-transparent text floating over an image in the
background ? When you try to delete a layer in your image
and 'everything' is deleted then one wonders what it is you are trying to
remove. You probably need to select 'something' on the layer first and
then remove this selection otherwise, yes you will remove the whole layer.
Perhaps you can better describe your situation by telling us what you're
starting with and what you are trying to accomplish..
Or maybe you can post your original image somewhere where we can have a
look
at it and then tell us what you want to do so we can help you.
Seems like you're trying to do something in the wrong way but it's hard to
tell by your description.
Well try to help but you'll need to do a better job describing what you
are trying to do.
