Question adding transparency

by Huub <"v.niekerk at hccnet.nl"> Jun 28, 2008 at 03:03 PM

Hi,

What I want to get is a picture through which you can see text, e.g.
which is transparent. According to the online manual, it can be done
with PNG files, so I have converted my JPG into PNG. Next, I add an
Alpha-channel. Then I try to remove the mentioned background, but
"delete layer" remove all of the picture. Then I try to open a new
template, remove the initial layer and then copy the picture into that.
However, what I get is 2 weird small lines over the blocks-background as
seen in fig. 6.9 in the online manual.
Where do I go wrong? Help is appreciated. BTW, using Gimp 2.4.5.

Thanks for helping.
