I think that the 'Material' tab has a lot of effect and this is not at
mentioned in the "tutorial". I found a couple of other approaches on
the net and the best one, in terms of getting what is advertised. is

As my main aim is to learn about the workings of GIMP rather than
just get through a recipe, I find all this different techniques
interesting, but am yet to understand what is really going on.
Can you suggest any books (I see some pretty expensive
ones on the net) that I could read to get a look under the hood,
so as to speak.
