51% voted for him 49% voted against him. He is now into his 2nd term which
automatically means he is a lame duck which means 2 things. The 2008 race
has begun and he really no longer controls his own party. I was pretty
depressed on his reelection but American democracy works in a funny way by
righting itself from extremes. Doesn't always happen immediately but it
does happen. In 1964 Johnson had a true landslide and a house lead of over
100 votes and about 30 in the Senate. He was handed his head on a platter
and declined to run for re-election 4 years later. Bush does not have a
landslide nor even a controlling vote lead in the Senate to over run the
opposition. The republican party has about 8 folks firmly in the middle
who can lean any which way and the President knows this. Before Bush
stopped gloating on Thursday the potential head of the judiciary already
warned Bush about his potential nominations. Short of another 911 the
****fting has already begun. It is true that Bush received more votes than
any president in history but it is also true that Kerry received the 2nd
most votes for the presidency in history.
