How to creating mathematical models using equations in maya tia sal2

Greets All

I'm trying to create mathematical models in
maya so I can also animate them using expressions tied to their values
the thing is I can't find a simple examples? I have
the book Mel Scripting for maya animators but it just
shows me how to animate objects that have already been created
not how to model math functions.

x(u,v) cos(u+v)/(sqrt(2.)+cos(v-u))
y(u,v) sin(u+v)/(sqrt(2.)+cos(v-u))
z(u,v) sin(v-u)/(sqrt(2.)+cos(v-u))

I'm trying to create some of these mathematical models in
maya. It shows the functions and the values but can maya recreate these
using equations?
