Greetings,
Have modelled myself into a corner using poly edge extrusions. Ran
into a couple areas where there was simply no way to connect the
original poly mesh together, which left a hole (or two).
I thought, no problem, created a new poly, snapping verts to existing
vertices, then merged verts.. Still have poly mesh and poly face, not
joined. Obviously I did something wrong, I was expecting the new poly
to merge into the existing mesh after the merge vert operation.
So to fix, I extruded an edge and "plugged the gap" only this time,
using extrusion from existing mesh. This seems to work (one object),
but I can't believe I have tripped over something that won't come back
to bite me..
I will work on getting some pics together, but one area was a 5-sided
hole, and another happened to be along an edge loop where there seemed
to be a corner..
So is this technique compatible with life in the Maya-verse, or is
there a better way to do this with polys?? I can split polys, I
suppose that would also work, but my "workflow" technique at this
stage is primarily edge extrusions, as it fits closest with a prior 3d
app.
I realize it's sketchy without a pic, but perhaps someone out here has
bumped into this in the past and conquered..? I will try to unwrap
and see if the result looks anything like I expect, if that goes well,
perhaps all is well..?
Have read the docs, I see append poly, but since I thought that was
what I was doing with the 2-poly bit, am a little lost on the highway.
Seeking enlightenment (thanks in advance)
