Some advice please

by Mark Scott <mark@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Mar 26, 2007 at 10:03 AM

Can someone offer me a bit of advice please? I am looking to learn 3D
rendering as mainly a hobby and would like some guidance as to what
software is best to learn first. i am aware that Blender is free but was
wondering if it stacks up against all the commercial versions of software.
I also know Maya does a Personal learning Edition which clearly makes
these two the easiest for me to learn (legally) but was hoping someone
can let me know the main differences between the packages as I know a lot
of people use 3DStudioMax other packages like Lightwave and Softimage are
 widely used in industry.

I do have some experience in visualisation software and use AVS software
and AMIRA for work and have played around with Lightwave on a dodgy copy
on my mates computer but that was a long time ago. I have recently
started getting into digital painting using photoshop which I have access
to through work and wanted to take things to the next level and try my
hand at a bit of 3D imagery.

Cheers
