Hi phil...
There are a few introductory books to Maya on Amazon.com, but the main
problem
with getting a handle on Maya is the size (and scope) of the user
interface.
Take all the popup and pulldown menus of PhotoShop and multiply by 10
would be
the size of Maya's interface and the problem with scope is that the
im****tant
elements of these controls panels are not distinguishable from the
secondary
selection menu items. An introduction to Maya amounts to being able to
NAVIGATE
the user interface. Animation, modeling, rigging, rendering and special
effects
have separate areas but are integrated and related through a variety of
popup
windows such as the attribute editor, graph editor, and the hypergraph.
The best way to learn to Navigate Maya would be an "Introduction to Maya"
video
Tutorial using a dual monitor setup (play the video on one screen, while
running
Maya in the other screen.
