Maya and Graphics Cards

by Korbinian Abenthum <korbinian@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 8, 2006 at 02:40 PM

Hi

A friend of mine has a problem with Maya since I installed graphics card
drivers yesterday (yes, he hadn't installed *any* before).

Since then, when rendering an image with Mental Ray he is getting
artifacts
in the result, most notably there are suddenly visible steps in what was
before a smooth color gradient.

Color depth is still 16bit.

When he deactivates his graphics card again and thus uses the windows
built-in drivers, it looks OK again.

AFAICT Mental Ray does not use the graphics card to do anything (and
besides, it's a pretty old "S3 Twister" which has no useful capabilities
to
speak of). Can anyone explain these problems to me or even have a
solution?

Thanks in advance,
 Korbinian
