That is, because there is no GLU package. GLU comes with the
OpenGL implementation. For Linux this would be included in
either X.Org or MesaGL (normally MesaGL is a dependency of
X.Org).

Also the driver packages of NVidia and ATI come with GLU headers
and library files, however most distributions prefer the default
headers from X.Org.
