Glyph variant?

I am creating archival disc jewel box inserts/trays for Mac files in
Photoshop CS3 and wish to add the Apple logo to the tray spine for
easy ID. The Apple Symbols font is an amazing opus with several
wonderful glyph selections any of which could be exactly that which is
wanted however when attempting to im****t the chosen gem into
Photoshop, the Special Characters windows will not give up the glyph
saying "The current application does not sup****t glyph variants."
InDesign and Illustrator experience no such problems. I could open the
glyph in either of those apps, ex****t the single glyph to eps and open
it in Photoshop however I should prefer to find a font that will offer
the symbol sought without such an attendant opera.

Since Photoshop handles opentype I'm not at all clear why it can not
handle this glyph variant; other glyphs - obviously not variants - in
the same font im****t into PS without protest.

Beyond welcoming some enlightenment on this issue, I should also be
grateful for a pointer to other, less remarkable fonts that also have
the Apple symbol. I thought to find it in webdings, wingdings or
possibly the Zapf dings - also without success. Any suggestions would
be welcome indeed.
