Newbie ... should I get the original intuos tablet?

Hi,

My daughter likes to draw on the computer and I'm thinking of getting
an used Intuos (the original one) tablet as a starter.

I believe this tablet has a serial connector instead of an usb one.

Would this work well enough with a "serial to USB" converter in an XP
environment?
