Advice needed on drawing software compatible with Wacom Intuos3

by Erica Mackenzie <macfiddler@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Oct 16, 2004 at 11:06 PM

Hello all,

Firstly, for all of you on comp.system.mac.graphics, apologies for the
cross-post; this is fairly urgent, and I'm new to both these groups.

I'm purchasing a Wacom Intuos3 6" x 8" graphics tablet for various
reasons, drawing included, and although it has bundled software, it
seems to be add-ons to Painter and Photoshop, neither of which
behemoths I need, want or can afford, especially after the outlay on
the tablet.

All I need is a simple drawing programme which will allow me to do the
equivalent of the freehand pencil/ charcoal drawing and oil pastel work
I've been doing for decades on real drawing paper (remember that stuff?
<g>). I don't need, or wish to pay for, much in the way of fancy
filters or similar bells and whistles.

I've been using a Mac for about 15 yrs, but not for graphics, since the
SummaSketch graphics tablet I had for my Atari Mega4 didn't work with
Macs, and I couldn't afford another one (that one had cost me thousands
second hand. It was made for PC's, and had been adapted with new
software to work with Ataris.)

(And changing the topic slightly, if anyone in Australia is interested
they can have it for the half cost of the postage; it's about 12" x 12"
drawing surface, but has no software.)

So, can anyone point me in the direction of software compatible with
this tablet, or better still, tell me that it will work with any or
most graphics software? <g>. It doesn't tell you anything on the Wacom
website about these things; you're supposed to just know ...

My computer/ OS is: G4 TiBook, 667 MHz, 1GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.3.5

best,

Erica Mackenzie
