Experiences with Wacom Volito?

by Chris Mc <chrismc@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Aug 9, 2004 at 12:34 PM

I'm looking at getting a tablet so I can draw on the computer - instead of
just sketching/drawing on paper. I've never actually used a tablet so I
have a couple of questions (a search on the graphics groups has produced
only a bit of info). I'm thinking of getting a Wacom Volito and was
wondering..

1: Has anyone had any experiences with it? Does it feel cheap or is it a
decent tablet? I know it has no eraser on the end, but I was wondering if
it's a good tablet for a beginner to use. It's about £34 in the UK and I
gather Wacom are generally a good brand. I have however heard on review
mention 'crippled drivers' - though they didn't say what they meant by
that (I plan on using it on Linux preferably, though I also have Windows
98on my PC so can use it on that)

2: How do tablet pens actually work when it comes to *not* drawing a line?
Can you lift them off the tablet and the PC still senses where they are,
so you can move the pen around without drawing? Or do you have to click a
button to take it out of drawing mode and move it around touching the pad?

Help is much appreciated.
