I am a total newbie when it comes to web graphics design.
Here is a picture that my sister helped me make with illustrator

I want it to alteast pop out and look "****ny" like this,

My basic concern is that the first image is dull and kind of smoky/
grainy even on my macbook pro.
How do I do this? Any comments?
Besides taking cl*****, is there anyplace where I can get started and
learn the techniques to produce professional looking web graphics.
Any websites, videos, tutorials, books that I can hit?
