You might try converting your Live Trace into a Live Color group, and
use the Live Color tools to color/delete area of the artwork. In fact,
you can simply select an area and apply a "no fill" option. Also, if
you're using CS3, under "Tracing Options" there's a checkbox for
"Ignore White." When you check that, the Live Trace will ignore the
background of the scan if it's white.
