Hi kevinby,
Unless I misunderstand what's happening, you should be able to disply
the colors; the yellow triangle is appearing to show you that the
specific color you've selected is "out of gamut" for the color space
AI 10 is using, Most likely that color target is set for a CMYK color
space, e.g., SWOP (Standard Web Offset Printing), which has a much
smaller gamut that monitor RGB, hence the yellow triangle warning that
the color is "out of gamut." When you click the triangle, it adjusts
the color to move it within the CMYK gamut (or whatever colors pace is
set as an Illustrator preference).
If you just want to display the colors, not print the design and have
colors similar to those being displayed, you don't have to do
anything; you don't need to worry about the warning and don't need to
click the triangle to adjust the colors.
You can reset the target color profile in AI as well. I've not used
Ai 10 in years, but...try this:
From the Ai 10 main main, go to Edit.Color settings and choose an RGB
target profile. Also, make sure that your do***ent mode in AI is "RGB"
not "CMYK." You can set that when setting up a new do***ent, or go to
File>Do***ent Setup an select "RGB."
If you want to read up more on this, Adobe has some do***entation on
color, albeit ofr AI CS3, you can aview. The general color info there
may help explain color gamuts, etc.
