Zevs
[http://www.oc-tv.net/zevs.htm]
All began on April 2, 2002 at 5.37 am in Berlin, Alexander Platz. A
young artist who passed by there took as an hostage the image of the
woman of the Lavazza poster, leaving in the place: "Visual kidnapping,
pay now! ". Zevs, the artist kidnapper, sends a letter of anonymous
ransom demand to the Italian mark in this form: "Dear owner, your image
goes well. Pay the ransom or I will proceed to the execution "It is
with horror that Lavazza receives this request for 500 000 euros,
accompanied with a victim's finger. But the owner does not let
himself intimidate and carries complaint. The street always was the
theatre of surprises, urban and electric playground, territories of the
poets and the dreamers, the activists and the fighters of all kind.
Observation, adrenalin, directs communication with the man of the
street. This same man has his children who, since always, going along
the walls always covered them. Flying pages, rolling pages, immense
pages, they are these pages concrete and stone which gives us the
colour of time. Came from the graffiti scene from the beginning of the
Nineties, Zevs, our masked man dissociates himself quickly with his
adverts kidnapping, his re-appropriations of the advertising slogans,
of the painted solid drop shadows, on the pavements and the walls. With
its brilliant appropriations of the urban elements, he gives us to
re-examine our daily and grey environment with humour and poetry. Meet
with the guy at the Patricia Dorfmann gallery:
