To merge two Layers:
[b]NOTE:[b] Unless the Layers you want to merge are in Composite
Method Default, the Collapse command will be greyed out. However, and
this is based on Painter 8 with the 8.1 patch installed, you may be
able to collapse Layers using different Composite Methods using the
keyboard shortcut Ctrl/Command+****ft+X. Be aware, though, that
depending on the Composite Methods and what's on each Layer, you may
have unwanted results. Best to save your file before trying this so if
it doesn't work as you'd like, you can use Undo or open the last saved
version of your file and continue.
1. Hold down the ****ft key and, in the Layers palette, highlight the
Layers you want to merge.
2. Use Ctrl/Command+G (or click the Layer Commands icon [left icon] at
the bottom of the Layers palette and choose Group).
3. Use Ctrl/Command+****ft+X (or click the Layer Commands icon and
choose Collapse).
To make your brush variant paint thick and thin strokes in response to
pressure, you'll need to be using a pressure sensitive tablet, then:
1. Use Ctrl/Command+B to open the Brush Creator (or use Window > Show
Brush Creator.
2. On the Stroke Designer tab, open the Size section.
3. Below the Size and Min Size sliders, click the small arrow on the
right end of the Expression drop down list and choose Pressure.
4. Adjust the Size and Min Size sliders as needed if you don't get the
range of brushstroke widths you want.
5. It also helps to set your Brush Tracking. To do that, use
Ctrl/Command+K and choose Brush Tracking from the drop down list in
the top left corner of the Preferences dialog box (or use Edit >
Preferences > Brush Tracking).
6. Paint a brushstroke on the Brush Tracking scratch pad using your
normal hand pressure, then click the OK button.
Read my response to nafa in a few minutes, as soon as I have time to
post it. It contains some misleading information.
