P 5 layer prob - Painter layer prob.gif (0/1)

I know 5 is different for layers, but I have to use now as the others
won't run. It must have some sort of transparency thing tho, cause
I've got one, but can't do a thing with it. I put a grid on a layer in
PS, on a psd file, but I can't paint on it, and don't know how the
layer properties works, help?
