Talking of badly-worded prose, I chanced across this recently:

Laughable on every level. I've re-written it for you:
"The houses alongside the canal were reflected eerily in the gently
rippling water. As I stared at the individual undulations I was
reminded of those delicate machines which can detect seismic
movement."
If you need any further assistance on the editorial front....no, scrub
that offer, it would involve a huge amount of work which you could ill
afford to pay me for.
